Deck The Halls

I've reached the stage of the year where my desk is an unholy hybrid of cartographer's workshop and Christmas grotto. One half is covered in paper, sketched maps, and notes about haunted forests; the other half looks like a festive mimic exploded tinsel everywhere, baubles rolling under books, and a candy cane that I swear keeps changing places when I''m not looking.
My current dilemma: Can you hang fairy lights on a fantasy battlemap? Because I think I’ve just proved the answer is: absolutely, and it looks incredible. If out of theme.
The PbP campaigns are thriving right now, full of frosty wanderings and players making bold moves while wearing slippers and drinking hot chocolate (I assume). And somehow, mixing map making with Christmas decorating feels… right. There’s something magical about sketching a snow swept ruin while christmas music plays in the background, or building a PvP arena that looks suspiciously like a Christmas market after dark.
Winter gaming season is officially open. And my players better prepare. Because yes, there may be festive mimics.
