TTRPG Roundup
January 9, 2026
What’s New This Week in TTRPG (Week 2, January 2026)
Welcome back to the George & Dragon’s weekly noticeboard — a quick, useful scan of what moved in the hobby this week, why it matters, and what’s worth your time this weekend.
New Gamemaster Month 2026 has begun
January’s annual push to help new GMs get behind the screen is underway again, with weekly guidance and exercises designed to get first-time GMs to a full session by the end of the month. If you’ve been hovering over the GM chair, this is a friendly shove (and a stack of free resources).
Traveller goes long-haul with Cluster Truck
Mongoose Publishing has released Cluster Truck, a full Traveller campaign about in-system cargo hauling — blue-collar sci-fi, corporate pressure, and “just one more run” energy. If your table likes consequence, logistics, and scrappy crews, this one’s an easy recommendation.
Toon is returning with a Second Edition
Steve Jackson Games has announced a new edition of Toon: The Cartoon Roleplaying Game, with crowdfunding having kicked off in late December. If your group needs a palate cleanser after grimdark winter arcs, Toon’s slapstick “you don’t really die” chaos is perfect holiday-season gaming.
World of Darkness continues its rebuild
White Wolf’s ongoing effort to bring World of Darkness publishing and licensing back in-house remains a story to watch. The broader direction has been discussed publicly by Paradox/White Wolf, and coverage continues across the hobby press — useful context if you run or follow Vampire, Werewolf, Hunter, and friends.
What to check out this weekend
- Try a “first session” challenge: Pick a one-page scenario, run it in 90 minutes, and keep notes on what your players actually reacted to.
- Read the Traveller pitch: If your group likes Firefly-style workaday crews, Cluster Truck is built for you.
- Book a silly one-shot: Keep Toon in your pocket for nights when the table needs laughs more than lore.
